Liposuction surgery in Chennai

For those people who aspire to look good, stubborn or excess fat occurring on the tummy, buttocks, thighs, hips, and chin often causes concern. People face difficulty in getting rid of the stubborn fat despite following a sensible diet and dedicated exercise regimen. By reshaping these individuals body contourthey can achieve a leaner, firmer appearance by a surgical procedure called Liposuction. By suctioning, localized fat deposits from the body are removed in a cosmetic surgical procedure called Liposuction. It enhances the aesthetic appeal and restores the proper body contour. The liposuction procedure is made safer by the advancement in the technology and techniques in today’s world. Liposuction has some of the following benefits:

  • Safe removal of fat is facilitated by it.
  • Confidence and self-esteem gets boosted.
  • The health condition associated with fat loss gets improved.
  • Diet and exercise resistant body areas are helped to reshape.
  • The circulation is eased and pressure on the blood vessels reduces.

Eligibility for liposuction

The individuals having the following criteria is best suited for liposuction:

  • Individuals with no response from the diet and exercise.
  • Individuals having firm, elastic skin, and good muscle tone.
  • Individuals with no life-threatening medical condition.

Considering the advantages and disadvantages of the procedure your doctor suggests the one type of liposuction which is suitable for you as there are different types of liposuction. Under general anaesthesia the surgery of liposuction is performed. In the treating areas small incisions are made during the procedure. Then to loosen the fat deposits under the skin a thin, hollow tube is inserted through the incisions. Now, in order to remove the dislodged fat from your body your doctor will use the suction mechanism.

Aftercare and Recovery Steps

To help reduce swelling compression garments or elastic bandages are used to cover the treated areas post-surgery. Regarding the care for surgical sites, medications to be used, and follow-up visits specific instructions will be given to you by your doctor. For complete recovery several days to weeks may be taken. Immediately after the treatment most people return to normal activities. However, in order to prevent the post-surgery complications returning to work few days after the treatment is considered. To maintain the body contour you must still follow a healthy diet and perform regular exercise although the fat deposits are suctioned out permanently from your body.

Exercises you should perform after Liposuction

AEROBIC EXERCISES –Within two days of a liposuction procedure light aerobic exercises and walking are recommended. Exercise routines that one may have been used to before the surgery should be performed slowly and at a lower intensity than before. In order to return to higher impact activities such as running and aerobics it is recommended by most of the surgeons to wait for three weeks after the procedure.

RESISTANCE EXERCISES –Two weeks after the surgery  all the resistance exercises can be resumed. Depending on tolerance resistance routines should be returned to slowly and should be increased as with aerobic exercises. From these resistance exercises if there is any discomfort, pain or drainage results then medical attention may be necessary.

What is Liposuction

The Liposuction is made from plastic surgery fat aspiration through the cannulas. It can be made in different parts of the body with localized fat and can be classified in 3 ways: small, medium or large, varying according to the amount of fat aspirated from different parts of the body.

What is Liposuction for?

Liposuction is indicated for men and women who seek to improve their body contour, eliminating unwanted fats located  in the abdomen, waist, flanks, back, breeches and thighs, which are difficult to be eliminated only with physical exercise and diet.

Contraindications for Liposuction

Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, it is only indicated for the removal of specific fat deposits. If the client is overweight, it is advisable to follow a balanced diet to lose weight before performing the procedure.

The deposition and amount of body fat is characteristic of each individual, also differing between genders. Men usually have less fat than women and deposit it in different areas like the abdomen and breasts. On the other hand, females have particular characteristics regarding fat deposition. This tends to be located in regions of flanks, arms, thighs, breeches and lower abdomen, a pattern known as gynecoid.

The treatment focused on the treatment of localized fats and with the objective of improving body contour is obtained through the aspiration of fatty tissue under a specific technique. The term liposuction has become consecrated, as well as liposculpture, since the work performed is similar to the process of sculpting the body in shapes and curves, removing excesses in specific regions and sometimes adding in other places.

Anesthesia: epidural with sedation or general

  • Duration: 2h - 4h
  • Hospitalization: 12-24h

Surgery is indicated after careful evaluation by the surgeon and the specific complaints postulated by the patient, establishing from this point the limits of the procedure and the possibilities of result.

The incisions are usually very small, about half a centimeter or 5 mm, through which special cannulas connected to a suction device pass. The number of incisions is dependent on the regions to be aspirated. Of great importance, the volume aspirated must obey safety limits that depend on the weight of each patient, therefore, surgery should be reserved for cases of localized fat and not as a method of weight loss.

In the postoperative period, the patient must use a special elastic band to help control edema and body shaping. Stitches in the region of the incisions are usually removed after 7 days with a return to lighter activities around the 10th day. Lymphatic drainage should be started after the doctor releases it and usually speeds up the recovery process. Physical exercises are extremely important for maintaining results as well as stimulating skin retraction in the period after surgery.

Although rare, they may occur: hematoma, infection, dehiscence of stitches, skin suffering, asymmetries, changes in sensitivity, thrombosis and embolism.

01. What is the ideal patient for liposuction?

The best candidates for liposuction are those patients close to their ideal weight and who have localized fats that are maintained even after diets and weight loss programs. Very overweight patients, who need a large reduction of fatty tissue in large areas, in addition to having a greater surgical risk (longer surgery time, greater blood loss, etc.) are more likely to have skin leftover in the postoperative period, since liposuction does not remove skin.

02. Which doctor is able to perform Liposuction?

Liposuction is a specialty of plastic surgery and only plastic surgeons were trained to do so and are able to perform it. Every patient must certify the specialization of his doctor. Unfortunately today there are several non-specialist doctors (not plastic surgeons) doing liposuction and thereby increasing the risk of surgery.

03. What is the difference between liposuction and liposculpture?

Liposuction is the removal of localized fat promoting an improvement in body contour. Liposuctionis not a technical term, being used sometimes to designate the liposuction of several regions in the same surgery. Others use the term when during liposuction surgery fat is removed from one area and injected into another (graft).

04. What is "Minilipo"?

The "minilipo" or "lipo-light" is nothing more than a liposuction with local anesthesia, old technique and nothing new. What has been accomplished today is this liposuction in offices and in parts, instead of doing all regions of the body. As for the result, it is more risky, because the chance of having irregularities and asymmetries between the liposuction parts on different days is greater than in a single liposuction. Because of local anesthesia, without any sedation, the patient often suffers from pain and the procedure ends up not being performed properly.

05. Is "Minilipo" safer than Traditional Liposuction?

This is spreading, but it is not true! Because it is performed in the doctor's office, the risk of infection is greater and the safety medical equipment is much lower than that of a surgical center. Furthermore, as several sessions are carried out, the risks multiply several times. However, the most worrying is that the majority of doctors who do "minilipo" or "lipo-light", are not plastic surgeons, therefore they are not specialists, which greatly increases the risk of complications.

06. In which regions of the body can I have a Liposuction?

Liposuction is done to remove localized fat and can be performed in places of natural fat accumulation, such as the abdomen, flank, back, legs, arms and face. Liposuction is not performed on joint areas, such as elbows, ankle and back of the knees.

07. Where are the scars big?

Liposuction scars are very small, from 5 to 10 mm, and are placed in hidden areas, such as under the bikini mark, inside the navel or in the breast groove. They are generally of good quality, being little noticed.

08. How long does the surgery last?

It depends on the extent of the liposuction area and the amount of fat to be removed. It usually lasts 1 to 3 hours.

09. What type of anesthesia is used for this operation?

It depends on the area to be operated and the volume of fat to be liposuctioned. It can be from local anesthesia, local with sedation, epidural or general.

10. What is the hospitalization period?

It varies from 12 to 24 hours, according to the size of the surgery and anesthesia. The length of hospital stay can be extended depending on the patient's recovery and medical evaluation.

11. When are the stitches removed?

The stitches are removed from 7 to 14 postoperative days.

12. How is the sensitivity of the operated area?

When the liposuction cannula sucks in the fat, it scrapes on small nerves that give sensation in the region. Therefore, there is a change in local sensitivity due to trauma after liposuction or liposculpture, which tends to gradually return over time. Some patients report pain, others insensitivity, others local numbness, etc.

13. Can I have liposuction before I get pregnant?

Liposuction does not alter or hinder pregnancy, as it removes only fat. It is common, however, the confusion between liposuction and abdominoplasty, which removes skin from the abdomen and for this reason it is not usually performed before scheduled pregnancies.

14. If I get pregnant after liposuction, will I lose the result of the surgery?

The question of whether or not to put on weight depends on the patient and her diet and habits. It is not because of liposuction that you get fat, but because of what you eat. Therefore, patients who control their weight will not gain weight, others who do not control will gain weight, having liposuction done otherwise.

15. What is the purpose of Ultrasound in the post-operative of Liposuction?

Ultrasound helps to organize internal healing after liposuction, being very important to minimize nodulations and post-operative irregularities.

16. When can I return to my normal activities?

It depends on the size of the surgery and the general condition of the patient. Postoperative pain is more intense on the first day, improving rapidly and progressively on the first 3 days, with pain being the main limiting factor in returning to normal activities. Minor surgeries under local anesthesia allow a quick return to work, however, larger surgeries, in large areas, require a longer rest period, approximately 7 days.

17. How soon will I reach the final result?

After the surgery there will be several periods of evolution, as follows:

A - IMMEDIATE PERIOD: It lasts until the 30th day and presents with intense local edema (swelling), and some bruises (purple spots) that regress quickly and progressively, but not completely. Some cases have a slight reaction to the stitches or dressing.

B - MIDDLE PERIOD. It goes from the 30th day to the 60th day. During this period, there will be a slow and progressive resolution of the remaining edema, with hardening of the operated areas secondary to internal healing, in addition to the beginning of the skin contracture with accommodation of the surplus. This period, the least favorable of the healing evolution, is the one that most worries the patients. As we cannot speed up the natural healing process, we recommend that patients do not worry, as the late period will be in charge of reducing the scarring traces.

C - LATE PERIOD: It goes from the 3rd to the 12th month. In this period, the scars start to become lighter and less consistent, thus reaching their definitive aspect. All edema will be resolved and the maximum accommodation of the excess skin has also been completed. Any assessment of the final result of the surgery should be made after this period.

18. Is there any danger in this operation?

Complications in liposuction are rare, but they can be mentioned: hematoma, seroma, irregularities, infection, deep vein thrombosis, skin suffering or accidents during surgery. Seroma is the most common complication in large liposuction. It consists of accumulation of liquid located in the operated region. When in large quantities it is necessary to empty through punctures, with resolution of the problem and without prejudice to the result. Complications are more frequent in smoking patients, so it is recommended to stop using cigarettes for 3 weeks before surgery.

19. Can Liposuction be associated with other surgeries?

Yes, the association of liposuction with other surgeries is common. The extent of liposuction will determine which surgery can be associated. The association of liposuction with abdominoplasty is very frequent, since lipo removes fat and abdominoplasty treats excess skin and abdominal flaccidity, which makes the two surgeries complementary in some cases.

20. How is the postoperative evolution?

There is a need to use compressive mesh continuously for a period of 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the evolution of the edema. Avoid hot places, intense physical activities and sun exposure, especially in the first 3 months after surgery. Lymphatic drainage in the postoperative period is very important for the result and a good evolution should start in the first postoperative week. You should not forget that, until the desired result is achieved, several phases are characteristic of this type of surgery. Thus, in a previous item, we clarified the healing evolution (up to the 12th month). It is also recommended to use an elastic strap for 4 to 6 weeks. Moderate exercise should be avoided for at least 1 month and intense exercise for up to 2 months. You may be concerned about "wish to reach the final result before the scheduled time ". Be patient as your organism will take care of dissipating all the small intermediate disorders that will inevitably call the attention of some of your acquaintances who will not shy away from observation:" Will this go disappear?  "- It is evident that any and all concerns on your part should be transmitted to us. We will provide the necessary clarifications, for your peace of mind. In time: In some patients, there is a certain anxiety in this phase, due to the transitory aspect (edema, insensitivity, scar transition, etc.) This is temporary and generally reflects the desire to achieve the final result as soon as possible. months.

IMPORTANT: Liposuction does not work miracles. Like any type of surgery it can determine results that do not depend on the surgeon. Age, the volume of fat to be aspirated, the flaccidity of the skin and region and the accommodation of this skin in the postoperative period can interfere with the final result. A second or even third surgery may be part of the treatment program. Definitive results should only be considered after 6 to 12 months of surgery. Retouching surgeries, when necessary, will be advised by the surgeon, and the time necessary for the adaptation of the tissues and accommodation of the scars must be respected. When performed at an inopportune time, they may not achieve the desired results. Retouching does not mean technical incapacity, but a surgical revision to achieve even better results. The costs of these possible touch-ups will be charged only in relation to hospital and anesthesiologist expenses. The surgical team will not be charged as long as these touch-ups are performed during the period suggested by the surgeon.

For fee purposes, retouching will be considered, any procedure indicated by your surgeon after the first surgery, in a subsequent period of 12 months. After this period, any surgical intervention will be considered as a new procedure, regardless of the first, even if in the same areas.
